Gavin Mole – Director of Coaching and Technical Director
Gavin serves as our Director of Coaching and Technical Director, bringing over 25 years of experience in player and coach development. He holds multiple advanced qualifications, including a UEFA B License, a BSc (Hons) in Sport Coaching Science with a focus on Skill Acquisition, and Post Grad as a Licensed Sports Nutritionist (SENR).
Gavin’s soccer journey began in the UK, where he played at several renowned Schools of Excellence (now known as academies), including Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion. He progressed to play at professional reserve-team level before competing at the highest levels of semi-professional soccer in England. Unfortunately, his playing career was cut short due to injury at the age of 23.
At 28, Gavin made a brief return to the game through futsal, representing Team Birmingham Futsal (ranked third nationally) and even made his debut against the England national team. However, the same injury ultimately ended his playing days and opened the door to his coaching career.
Gavin began his coaching journey shortly after retiring from playing and has since built a diverse and successful career across youth, collegiate, and semi-professional levels. His early experience in England included coaching at the grassroots level, managing a university women’s team, and leading a semi-professional men’s side. He later moved into the professional academy environment, including a role with Manchester City’s academy and community programs.
After relocating to the United States, Gavin continued his development work by coaching multiple competitive teams across both boys’ and girls’ age groups. He has served in leadership roles such as Academy Director and Assistant Director, before becoming Juniors Director at Dallas Surf. Gavin has since been promoted multiple times and now serves as the club’s Director of Coaching and Technical Director.
Gavin is passionate about developing both players through high-intensity, game-based training. He is the cultural architect behind the club’s methodology, establishing a clear and consistent philosophy that drives player development at all levels.
His approach emphasizes competitive, engaging environments designed to foster long-term growth. Drawing on his academic background and ongoing commitment to research in coaching and skill acquisition, Gavin continues to evolve the club’s player development pathway to meet the demands of the modern game.
”I believe the game is the best teacher—but only if we ask the right questions and set the right conditions.
